Initial SAP Assessment
Meet with a DOT-qualified SAP for a comprehensive assessment following your drug or alcohol violation.

Complete Recommendations
Complete the individualized education and/or treatment recommendations established during your Initial SAP assessment.

Follow-Up Evaluation
Your SAP reviews participation, progress, and successful compliance with the recommendations.

Return-to-Duty Test
Your employer or prospective employer arranges the required DOT Return-to-Duty drug and/or alcohol test.

RTD & Follow-Up Testing
After DOT requirements are met, the employer determines return to safety-sensitive duties and implements the SAP follow-up testing plan.

Before Your Appointment
Complete requested intake paperwork and provide available information regarding your DOT violation. FMCSA-regulated employees should complete applicable Clearinghouse steps.
During Your Assessment
You'll discuss the violation, substance use history, prior treatment or education, relevant behavioral health history, current functioning, and recovery supports.
After Your Assessment
Your SAP will explain the education and/or treatment recommendations and what you must complete before returning for your Follow-Up Evaluation.
